Because of the colours you used, I don't see it as sinister or threatening. It IS mysterious, but not quite... dark.

I wouldn't say I can't believe the detail you put into it because I can believe it, it's just hard to comprehend a person could have the patience and skill to create something so intricate and beautiful. Like that lace on her sleeves and the bubbles and all those little folds in the fabric, it looks like you spent hours on each fold
And she really truly looks like she's underwater, that's exactly what underwater hair looks like, all floaty and soft.
I like the little ring she's wearing too. And its good you didn't make it exactly the same as the photo.
